AFI Documentary Film Festival

This week

Rotatio will be screening at the American Film Institute Documentary Film Festival in Washington D.C. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the festival, here is a excerpt from their website:

"AFI DOCS is the nation's documentary film festival known for showcasing the best in documentary filmmaking from the US and around the world.

AFI DOCS is also the only film festival in the United States that offers the unique opportunity to connect film audiences with national opinion leaders, filmmakers and intriguing film subjects. With conversations and experiences you won't experience at any other film festival, AFI DOCS harnesses the power of this important art form and its potential to inspire change."

The film will be screening at 1:30 pm this Thursday, June 23rd. Not only is this an incredible film festival to be part of, this year AFI DOCS will be awarding Werner Herzog the 2016 Charles Guggenheim Symposium honoree. Never would I have dreamt that my first film would be shown in a festival honoring one of my favorite filmmakers of all time. I am incredibly humbled and privileged to be attending the festival as well. Ian, my co-director and partner, is on a adventure of a lifetime traveling Africa with his brother who works for the Peace Corps, so he won't be able to join me. This is surely going to be my own adventure of a lifetime though.

I would not have the ability to attend this festival without the support from the Filmed in NC grant from the Cucalorus Film Festival. Their generous grant will be helping me travel to Washington and meet the incredible filmmakers and audiences in D.C.– sharing my experiences face to face and showing support for all of the incredible artists showing their dedication and masterpieces.

Next Month

I will finally be setting out on another adventure of a lifetime. The School of the Museum of Fine Arts awarded me the Allie Pratt Award for traveling artists, and after a year of planning, me and two fellow artists will embark on a trip across the country. With cameras, recording equipment, instruments, paper and pen, our month of travel will be filled with creativity. Stay close to hear more about planning and all our spectacular destinations and inspirations.

Until then, here are some images of us from the River Run International Film Festival in Winston-Salem, NC!
